About this deal

You then just select the correct volume and push the lever to the right. The Mini Me is fairly loud during extraction, but not as loud as the Nespresso Inisia. There’s also a degree of vibration, but not enough to make the cup dance around on the drip tray like the Dualit Xpress 3-in-1.

At the end of the preparation of the drink, the on/off button flashes red for about 5 seconds. Do not remove the capsule holder during this time! It is necessary to purge the machine before its first use. To do this, select on the head the maximum amount of water from the machine, drop an empty container under the head of the machine and press the Cold Water position (blue button) and wait for the end of the stream. Repeat the process on the hot water position (red button). Your machine is then ready for use.For cold beverages, use water at ambient temperature, never refrigerated water, and place two or more ice cubes (20g per ice cube) in the cup. To reiterate the same point that I started with, the biggest benefit of the Dolce Gusto is that it is a very convenient coffee maker to use for those of us who don’t want to fiddle with a dozen bells and whistles just to get a decent cup of joe.

The NESCAFE Dolce Gusto Mini Me is an automatic single-serve coffee machine that allows you to use ultra-convenient pods to create a wide range of roast and ground coffees, as well as sumptuous hot chocolate drinks and various barista-quality specialty beverages. Controls have been kept to a minimum, but that doesn’t mean that the Mini Me isn’t versatile. The power button is located on top of the round head of the machine – pressing it will initiate the warm up, leaving the button to flash red until it’s ready to extract, at which point the button glows green. There’s a sliding selector that runs along the front fascia of the head, which allows you to dictate the exact amount of water for your drink. One of the cleverest aspects of the whole Dolce Gusto system is that printed on each capsule is the correct volume setting, so you should never make a mistake. Tap water (normal household potable water) is perfectly OK as long as it is free of odors that might alter the taste of the beverage. Bottled water is also OK.The drink we ended up with wasn’t anywhere near as bad as we feared it might be, but it wasn’t great either. While being just about palatable, it was overly creamy, and left a distinct aftertaste in the mouth. What we found interesting was that while regular coffee drinkers really disliked the powdered milk drinks served up by the Mini Me, those that rarely drank coffee, or generally preferred tea, quite liked the cappuccinos and lattes that it produced. For medium hardness water, descaling every 3/4 months gets rid of limescale build up, keeping waterflow fast and beverage temperature within expectations. Follow the instructions in your personal instruction manual for descaling your machine as techniques vary according to the model you own.
